JOB SUMMARY

UNDER THE GENERAL SUPERVISION OF THE CHIEF CONSERVATION OFFICER, THE PRINCIPAL SOIL SCIENTIST WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PLANNING OF; SOILS SURVEYS; ON-FIELD TRIALS ON SOIL LOSS AND FERTILITY; COORDINATION OF SOIL SURVEY ACTIVITIES; PREPARATION OF THE SECTIONAL BUDGET; AND SUPERVISION AND TRAINING OF SECTIONAL STAFF.

MAIN DUTIES

  1. PLANNING OF SOILS SURVEY ACTIVITIES
  1. Identifies soil conservation problem areas and prioritise accordingly to facilitate the pursuit and accomplishment of Ministerial and Departmental objectives.
  2. iaises with other sectional heads within the Department and the NonGovernmental Organizations to identify their activities that relate to Soils Division with a purpose to harmonize work relations as well as avoiding duplication of efforts.
  3. Develops a consolidated sectional work-plan to guide the implementation of sectional activities in a systematic and standardized manner throughout the country.

 2. SOILS SURVEY AND MAPPING.

  1. Develops and provides general guidelines for execution of soil surveying and mapping through Digital Soil Mapping in order to ensure the quality of data collected as well as its collection methodology.
  2. Maps soils on the basis of its peculiar properties and characteristics and facilitate it thorough interpretation, knowledge and understanding to achieve effective utilization of land resources through digital soil mapping.
