FUNCTIONS OF PLANNING SECTION

  • To develop conservation plans in line with program of action of Sustainable Land Management initiative.
  • To link country programs on soil and water conservation to sub- regional, regional and global through UN conservation such as UNCCD, CBD, UNFCC Ramsar and CITIS.
  • To incorporate community participation into concrete soil conservation project ideas through Community Based Organization workshop approach.
  • Provide technical advice and facilitate a process of participatory planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of program activities, ensuring active and substantive participation of communities in problem identification, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation through community action planning and community-based program in catchments areas.
  • Provide technical and organizational support in the planning and preparation of reports to UNCCD CRIC and COP meetings.
  • To link the request of communities through DCO with relevant department, divisions/sections and liaise with relevant stake holders on soil and water conservation issues.
  • To introduce, promote popularize new innovations and viable activities that will ensure sustainable use of natural resources that will promote soil and water conservation.
  • To capacitate land users on care and maintenance of conservation works through courses, workshops, study tour and mass media productions.
  • To monitor and document field achievements and facilitate cross-pollination between and within districts and divisions.
  • To identify staff training needs and develop training plan.
