    FUNCTIONS OF RANGE INVENTORY AND PLANNING

Rangeland Assessment

  • To identify areas that need to be assessed.
  • To assess the rangelands and delineation of them throughout the country to make recommendations for range management improvement.
  • To collect rangeland resource data in order to determine rangeland species diversity, biomass production, carrying, grazing and browsing capacities and also to classify  vegetation types found in the rangelands.
  • To participate in monitoring of permanent transects, which are used for monitoring the rangelands condition.
  • To collect and analyse cattle-post user data.
  • To identify and assess the burnt areas for records.

Rangeland Plans Development

  • To develop of grazing management plans.
  • To develop cattle-post adjudication plans
  • To map the burnt areas for records.
  • To develop recommendation on methods that can be undertaken for rehabilitation of burnt areas depending on the outcome of the assessment.
  • To participate in the implementation of the recommendations from the assessment of the burnt areas.
  • To determine historical use of rangeland resources data
