FUNCTIONS OF RANGE REHABILITATION AND CATTLE-POST AREA MANAGEMENT

Cattle-post Area Management

  • To identify the wetland areas that need to be rehabilitated.
  • To device the appropriate measures for rehabilitation of wetland areas which include fencing and demarcation using beacon.
  • To develop management plans for wetland areas that are being rehabilitated. 
  • To coordinate the development of the cattle-post relocation plans and implementation of  cattle posts adjudication plans
  • To facilitate delineation of grazing areas within the cattle post area.

Rangeland Improvement and Restoration

  • To develop and implement  National fire management plan and guidelines.
  • To research and develop ecologically sound rehabilitation methods for burnt areas
  • Identify degraded areas that need to be rehabilitated.
  • To research and device appropriate rehabilitation methods that can be implemented in the degraded areas.
  • To coordinate and participate in the rehabilitation of degraded rangelands.
  • To identify appropriate varieties of grass that can be used for reseeding.
  • To identify degraded areas for reseeding and design reseeding trials.
  • To participate in the seeding program with the communities.
  • To devise suitable methods for eradication of invader species
